About Us

The Kentucky Council on Problem Gambling (KYCPG), established in April 1995, is dedicated to supporting the people of Kentucky at a time when gambling opportunities are expanding across the Commonwealth and beyond its borders. While most people gamble responsibly as a form of recreation, KYCPG maintains a neutral stance toward gambling itself.

We also recognize that more than one percent of the population will develop a gambling disorder. Problem and compulsive gambling is an emotional illness and a public health concern that can harm individuals, families, and communities. Without help, lives may be deeply affected—but with support and recovery resources, lives can be restored and renewed.

Our mission is to reach out to individuals struggling with compulsive gambling, as well as their families, and to serve as a trusted referral resource. At its core, KYCPG is about people helping people face and overcome a hidden illness of the 21st century.

As a nonprofit organization, KYCPG provides a wide range of services to communities across Kentucky, including:

  • Offering free literature on problem gambling and financial strategies for families.
  • Operating the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline through the River Valley Behavioral Health Crisis Line in Owensboro.
  • Promoting public awareness through educational campaigns and billboards.
  • Conducting seminars and training sessions for healthcare professionals.
  • Providing expertise to industry leaders and legislators considering gambling policy.
  • Delivering a unique curriculum for middle and high school students on gambling issues.
